Data Sources & Licences

Deutsche Fassung

Page version: 2026-09-22

NorthTrack combines separate data sources. Model forecasts are not observations; Apple Weather is not official aviation weather; a nearby METAR/TAF station is not presented as a report from the requested airport. NorthTrack values such as WCA, heading, groundspeed, ETE, interpolation and wind components are derived calculations from the named source data.

Weather and radar

  • Apple Weather / WeatherKit: general forecast context for an explicitly selected target. The Apple Weather mark and Apple's data-source link presented by the app form part of the attribution. Apple Weather is not a METAR/TAF observation or official aviation briefing. WeatherKit

  • Open-Meteo Commercial: signed-in NorthTrack wind-profile/model-weather path. NorthTrack sends the target coordinate rounded to four decimal places, model, variables and time window; the requested flight altitude is sent to the NorthTrack function, not to Open-Meteo, and is interpolated by NorthTrack from returned model levels; the Firebase user ID is not included in the provider payload. Attribution: Weather data by Open-Meteo.com, data licensed under CC BY 4.0; NorthTrack identifies modifications/derivations and provider time. Open-Meteo

  • AviationWeather.gov / NOAA/NWS: METAR, TAF and station products for requested airports or transparently identified fallback/reporting stations. AviationWeather.gov Data API

  • Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD): direct radar WMS path Radar_rv_product_1x1km_ger at maps.dwd.de; the app displays provider and data time. Model labels such as DWD ICON-EU in the Open-Meteo path remain separate. DWD geoservices

Maps

  • Online standard map: map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL. Standard tiles are requested only for online viewing with an identifiable NorthTrack user agent, HTTP caching and visible attribution; they are not used as the offline-package source. Tile Usage Policy

  • Offline vector maps: locally rendered MBTiles transformed from OpenStreetMap/Geofabrik extracts with Planetiler and an OpenMapTiles-compatible schema. Visible attribution: © OpenStreetMap contributors · © OpenMapTiles. OpenStreetMap data are under ODbL; applicable OpenMapTiles/Planetiler notices are retained.

Terrain and elevation

NorthTrack relief and Terrarium elevation packages are derived products based on Copernicus DEM GLO-30 and are used locally after installation. The identified provider text remains untranslated:

Aviation data

  • OpenAIP: 77 admitted versioned offline packages supply airports, runways, frequencies, navigation/reporting points and airspaces to map, search and route features. Installed packages are used locally and do not make a location-bearing runtime request to OpenAIP. OpenAIP is not an official aviation authority. The project-specific permission dated 6 August 2026 supports only the documented integrated, attributed and non-standalone NorthTrack use. OpenAIP

  • OurAirports: server-side reference data for airport, runway, frequency and navaid resolution. The provider releases downloads into the Public Domain. OurAirports Data

Offline delivery

The current shipping manifest downloads admitted map, terrain/elevation and OpenAIP packages from Firebase Storage. Manifest, generation, size and SHA-256 bind installed identity. Backblaze is documented only in historical publication receipts as a technical release archive and is not a direct mobile runtime recipient in this download path.

Use limits

Sources, coverage and freshness differ. Installed packages are snapshots and can become stale between updates. NorthTrack is a supplementary planning and information aid and does not replace AIP/NOTAM, official weather material, POH/AFM, regulations or the pilot in command's decisions.
